An apology

I will start by saying that i have not read Lusting Lioness' post. Nor do I intend to.

To Ray and Liz I apologise that I have not been pulling my weight around the house. This will change. To my friends who believe I am not ill, I am sorry that you feel that way.

When I suffered from depression previously I almost completely drew away from the world as I felt alone and without any friends and found myself pushing my friends away. I am back at this very stage at this moment. I feel that I am very much alone at this moment in time, but I do wish to get myself back on my feet because I have the best reason in the world to do so. Someone I love.

I will try to make amends with the people I have offended. I will atone for my actions. Anyone who has done anything against me I forgive, there will be no comeback for your previous actions as of now.

I will leave this account open and anyone may make any comment that they wish to. However I will not be using Livejournal, nor do I intend to read any posts. I feel livejournal has been used to cause more damage to my friends and myself than it has been used for good. I believe we have been using it as a replacement for talking.

The loss of stargate

Possibly. Our tv company has fallen out with SKY so we are going to loose Sky 1. I have only read virgin's press release but it appears that at the same time as talks with Virgin about renewing the subscriptions for Sky 1 was going on, Sky have launched a series of adverts saying that Sky 1 will soon only be available to Sky customers. Virgin also state that Sky have asked for double the amount for Sky1 as they did last year. Talks have ended with Sky quoting that Virgin would not agree to renew the subscription, Virgin saying the above. Interesting though that in a similar move Sky have announced ending their channels on freeview also later this year.

The right way:
"Hey Jay, I'm wondering if this new anime game you are thinking of running is right for me; I don't know but I just have this feeling that it might not be my style of anime. Can we perhaps talk about it and I can let you know what I would like from a game?"

The wrong way:
"Still not sure about the anime RP that </a></b></a>dantes_bbq wants to run... I'm very fussy about the anime/manga I like, and I have a suspicion that it might not gel with anyone else's in the game, especially the GM's."

It seems to me that people have started slipping into the culture of LJ-slaps: It's far easier to grieve about it on LJ. That way the point gets put across and "Hey... I was only expressing my feelings." without the need to actually discuss it with the "target" first.

I've seen a lot of this happen over the last few months and I really thought people had grown up and become mature enough to talk about their problems with someone directly instead of LJ-slapping them first. Well it seems people haven't. Grief. I'd like to think that we are adult enough not to need this pointing out.

These days I check LJ always with the reservation that someone is probbably going to LJ-slap. Again.

For the record though... How the hell do you know if i won't like something without talking to me? (ok that question WAS directed at one person in particular, but it still isn't an insult).

As to everyone else... I hope you all are also having a fun time. Especially Chamonkee, congratz on strip 100.

Whitby was cool this weekend, it is a pity that I was fated to miss the Viking festival in York this year but at least my Bro got the shield-boss he has been searching for which is cool.

again...

I have reached lvl 40 on WoW, so I have purchaced my first steed. A Felsteed to be precise as I'm a warlock. Which means game-wise that instead of paying about 90g for it, I ended up payiong 99 silver. It's cool as it streams fire from it's eyes and also its hooves. There are downsides though. The insurance is a bugger, geting fire cover is especially difficult.

Gettingto lvl 40 has been fun/trying/boring/exciting/hilarious and time consuming, but the result is well worth it. Playing a warlock is mucho fun, more fun that I had previously given it credit.

Ok so Lurky arrived in WoW. My very own Murloc pet and he is evil. For those of you who know the evil of the Murlocs I warn you that Lurky is moreso. Imagine the Murloc battle cry coming from a BABY murloc. Add buck teeth and not only that but at random intervals he produces a top-hat and cane and sings.

I'm tring to work on my characterisation a little. So I'm scrawling again. Please someone, anyone let me know what you thing to the characterisation in this.

“It’s just wrong!”
“What? What is wrong? What could possibly be wrong, and I say this with great felling: This. Time!” Stephen turned to Sykes and looked at his friend.
“Myaans, or Maaians or whatever the fuck it’s spelt like it isn’t the fuck spelt like this!” Sykes waved the offending piece of paper in the air violently.
Stephen rolled his eyes. “What does it matter? Seriously, what does it matter to us? It’s a work docket.” He grabs for the paper but Sykes is too quick for him and pulls it away, the two scuffle for a second and Stephen finally wrestles the paper from Sykes’ grip. “It says acclimatise section 512b for use of he Myaans as living quarters. All air vents must be covered. Temperature controls must be set at 12 degrees centigrade. Green vegetation must be present in all eight corners of the room.” He looks at Sykes, “Now what does it matter if it is spelt wrong?” He looks a second time, and then he looks back at Sykes. “I think you could be right. It is spelt wrong.”
“I told you so.”
Stephen shakes his head. “What does it matter?”
“What does it matter?” Sykes imitates him sarcastically. I’ll tell you why!” He sits down, “It’s important, that’s why.”
“Important.”
“Yes.”
“Why is it important? Why? When it’s not going to be written anywhere, or, for that matter are we even going to be anywhere near when they arrive.”
“It just is. It’s fucking important.” Sykes sounds suddenly very sullen, almost like a child.
“Why?”
“Because things have to be correct, that’s fucking why!”
Stephen folds his arms, looks like he is going to say something, and then stops.
Sykes looks at him “There are three hundred people, who are on that ship, and it’s wandered into Myaan space and their lives depend on a group of highly skilled individuals who can’t even spell the name of the fucking people they are supposed to be negotiating with on a fucking work docket!”
“What do we care about the spelling on a work docket for?” Stephen waves the work docket back at Sykes’ face. “It’s not as if your handwriting or spelling is anything to write home about.” He looks at Sykes sternly. “They need this doing, so we do it. We’re the engineers. Not the captain, not the Negotiators, not, Rasala forbid, the Operatives, though you may act like one when you are acting pissy!”
“I do not.” Sykes stands up facing Stephen, “I’ll tell you why it matters! Lives are at stake and…. Did you just call me pissy?” They both look at each other for a second, and then begin to laugh.
“Come on, lets get this done, I’ve got these flowerbeds to hand on the ceiling.” Stephen puts an arm around his friend’s shoulder.
“Ok, I suppose you’re right.” Sykes places the work docket back in his jacket pocket and shrugs. “It’s not like they are going to see it.” He helps Stephen pick up a large plant and they both move it over to the far corner of the room.
“What time are they arriving?” Stephen asks.
“Oh about four hours according to Shanice in the comms room. Really? Pissy?”
“You had better get that temperature setting done then. Yes, pissy. Really.”

I'm a little annoyed at HMV.co.uk as my pre-ordered WoW Burning Crusade Collectors Limited Edition is now going to be a no-show. If they had told me earlier (They've had my order for well over a month) I could have ordered elsewhere. But apparently they are in "short supply". Go figure.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that we are all good friends. So why the hell are we all falling out over little things. With a couple of exceptions I've seen this group, my friends, fall out over so many different and trivial matters. No one has slept with anyone else's partner. No one has stolen anything. No one has killed anyone's brother. So why are people getting so wound up over these trivial things? I don't know. Maybe we are all so melo-dramatic about the small things because we don't have the bigger things to worry about. All I see is my friends arguing again. At the drop of a hat they start name-calling over the web. So either I have to give people a wake up call, or find better friends. I know which I'd prefer. Consider this a wake-up call.

As belief goes it is a perfectly rational hypothesis. The legend of Saint Nick has been around for centuries. Oh re-branding him has been seen as necessity over the years, as certain soft-drinks manufacturers will testify. Has the message stayed the same? Possibly. That’s our answer. It’s the only reasonable one we can come up with. Yes there was a Saint Nick, a Nicolas, a Father Christmas. He comes around on the eve of the night before the birth of Jesus Christ. But something stirs in my imagination. Not through hatred, because I certainly don’t hate Father Christmas. I don’t like the commercialism that has taken over this festival either. But hate? No. But as I say, something crawls in my imagination that won’t lay still. It is only a theory, but as theories go, it’s one I can’t dislodge.

Take for example the naughty or nice requirements. We can see where this comes from; the Victorians did a lot of work “cleaning” our common belief’s for a more “family orientated” ear. That is to say, they made stories nicer for the adults who had to listen to them. The children? Well we can possibly all remember our friend telling us a ghost story; the scarier, the more terrifying, the better. So what used to happen? The children get presents if they are good, if they are bad however… To a child no presents is a fairly bad warning, but usually folk tales, and originally this was probably a folk tale, are usually more grisly in outcome. Gretel’s near death experience can testify to that. So if you have been bad, originally, then your fate would have to have been a lot darker than the absence of toys.

The second thing that sticks in my mind is the timing. Not on the day of the birth of Christ; but the night before. Just before. It says to me a few things, but the one thing I feel it screams is the fact that this is a point in Christ’s life where all his enemies are looking for his arrival. Someone who travels around visiting every child? At this time? To check how good they are. Ok, you might say ah, but Father Christmas wasn’t around then. There is no mention of him in the bible. That is the crux of my thinking.

So I ask myself, just how Christian is Father Christmas? If someone could tell me where he figures in this event. Or his actual origins. Not “Well obviously he…” But actual documented proof of where this character came from and how he became associated with Christmas Eve. This person who visits all children on that night. Father Christmas, Saint Nick, or let’s not forget Santa.

I have but one question to leave you pondering which should cause you some concern… Have you been nice, or naughty?

Yay! I have my new graphic's card installed. It is nice and shiney and has only made my pc blow up once. As to why... Well lets just say i've had to make my pc into a convertable. I have to run it with the roof off. New Keyboard, supplied for xmas by Pamziaw, ok I know I have it early but some of my other keys were non-funtional on my old keyboard. An accident with root beer. Still,this one is fine...If only I could find the cup-holder...
